RELEASE AGAINST THE PURPORTED STORY PUBLISHED BY THE MEDIA OVER THE APPREHENSION OF MAPOLY STUDENTS FOR 'CYBER FRAUD' _ Cmr. kosoko Olushola
Recently, a particular story has been spreading across all social platforms, mass medium concerning the apprehension of some Moshood Abiola Polytechnic Students by the Economic Financial Crime Commission over the alleged 'Cyber fraud'.
This said pronouncement by some of these media outlets in Nigeria on the obvious arrest of our students has become more publicised as it is expected to be. The media has taken it with high sense of priority beyond limitation as we have needed the media more than the circulation of such callous and vindictive stories.
Today's Journalism has nothing to write home about as the most respected platforms where issues of human interest and prominence are to be disseminated, but reverse is the case for all these outlets. Developmental Journalism should be what our media should embrace, but it's so disappointing and lugubrious seeing our media practising underdevelopmental Journalism.
The arrest of the our students has taken more negativity part than the anticipated positivity. Students who were arrested and arraigned by EFCC on the issue that is highly predominant across all Institutions in the country has now been taking with much more tenacity and voltage on our products.
Encouragement of such act isn't our priority but the method of which our mass media operate remains unencouraging and unprogressive to the profession and to the country as a whole. Dissemination of bad news is what our mass media takes as three square meals as the good ones are allowed to go into extinction without adequate and sufficient publicity.
With high records of achievement and success on the part of our products from Moshood Abiola Polytechnic Abeokuta, this institution is ascertained to have produced individuals who stand today as a great ambassadors of our country, state of origin and the institution.
MAPOLY produced the first ever chattered accountant at the level of National Diploma programme, MAPOLY produced the incumbent Governor of Ogun state Senator Ibikunle Amosun CON FCA, MAPOLY produced the incumbent NANS Chairman of Ogun state Comrade Olawale Balogun, MAPOLY produced the popular Rap Artiste Jibola Toriola (JHYBO), MAPOLY produced the lovable and talented Nollywood actress Funke Akindele, to mention but a few.
The above are just a synopsis of products who had their HND or ND at the prestigious institution, in response to that, the media remained dormant and dumb on the achievement of those products from our institution but have only decided to put to air issues that portray the negative aspect.
I therefore urge all media houses, platforms and blogs to desist from defacing our dear institution and uphold the tenets of objectivity as explained by Journalism. Development Journalism should be what the media preach out to people and not devaluing or disparaging our country's pride and tarnishing institutional images.
It is a clear assertion that 'BAD NEWS SPREADS FASTER THAN GOOD NEWS', and that is the most suitable statement behind all activities of our Journalists.
I urge all media outlets, social media platforms to stop tarnishing our corporate image and desist from giving credibility to issues that deserve inferiority.
I cover the pen for now.
